Cozy

I don't usually do this, but I'm double posting! This is the image I'm putting up on The Sketchables tomorrow.

Like I will mention there, I haven't been drawing as many animals lately and I really want to get back to it. I LOVE drawing animals and especially animal characters. Kids and people are fun, but how fun is it to get to make an animal convey a personality that makes you think they're almost human?! That there's definitely a spark and thought process there?

If you've seen Disney's "Dumbo" than I think you can see my inspiration. One of the sweetest scenes in the movie. Man, those animators knew their stuff!

Anywhoo, I hope you like it and thanks for coming by!

New Postcard mailer!

So, I just sent my new postcard design to the printer, FINALLY. I need to get back to it with my marketing. That is definitely the hardest part for me in all of this. Self promotion...oye. I'm sure I'm not the only one, right? It's a lot of work. Not just researching the different publishers and what to do, but designing a postcard that's going to grab their attention, show what you can do and make them want to hire you! I'm never completely sold on my ideas for my postcard designs, but you gotta do it and just get them out there.

Anywhoo, here are the back and front of my card. The back of the final file had my information, of course, on the left side. Let me know what you think and what you do to promote yourself!

They Draw & Cook (the book)- It's here!!

Thanks to the dynamic design and illustration duo, Nate Padavick and Salli Swindell, They Draw & Cook the cookbook is here! A collection of 107 illustrated recipes by artists from around the world are bound and published in this beautiful, colorful and fun book.

It all started with their genius idea for a blog of the same name. I was so excited when I heard about their concept, I had to illustrate a recipe. And am I glad I did! Be sure to check out my mango lassi recipe in the drink section toward the back.

here it is, just so you know what to look for :o)

Thanks Nate and Salli!

New art!

I'm finally feeling more creative lately. I dunno, maybe more sleep than I've had in months? This is an idea I had for some room art in my son's nursery. I actually had the frame first and got the idea for how to fill it :o). I used some of the color pallet in his room repeated in the image. I keep meaning to post some photos of his room and how I designed it. No baby stuff there! I like a more "designy" room! I'll try and post photos soon.

Thanks for stopping by and for any comments!

Fun with high contrast!

These are some 5 x 7 cards I designed for a book I'm working on. I also hung the dog and the owl in my son's nursery. They were a lot of fun to create! The dog is a different approach, so I'm thinking of maybe redoing the owl and chameleon in a similar way.

Thanks for any comments and for stopping by!

Father's Day!

This is my wonderful husband's first father's day. He's such an amazing dad I'm in awe. He's so patient and sweet and takes such good care of our boy. I'm so glad we decided to have a child, it took us long enough to come around! If my boy grows up to be anything like his father, I'll be so proud. Notice how the husband can "multi-task" with the iPhone in hand, t-hee.

Happy Father's Day!

Phinneaus Whistlestop

This was a quick little illustration I did for a client before Christmas. It's a cover for a story my client's mother wrote and she wanted me to illustrate it to give her mom for Christmas. So sweet and a pretty creative idea for a gift I think.

Thanks for any comments and for stopping by!

Pieces for Sweet Breams show!

Here are the three pieces I entered for the Sweet Breams art show this last time. The show is down now, but was really fun and a good turn out! Thanks to Sweet Breams for inviting me to participate in the show!

I like how the pieces turned out and enjoyed making them a lot. I have a few of each left if anyone is interested in purchasing them. I'm just charging $20 a piece plus shipping and I do take Paypal. They are digital, 8 x 10 prints on archival paper. So, if you're interested drop me an email and let me know.

Here is a quick picture I snapped of the framed pieces before putting them up at the show. Usually I'd choose something more simple to frame the work in, but I thought the wood frames added to the art in this case.

I hope you like them and would love any comments! Thanks for stopping by!

CLICK MAGAZINE- "Fall to Winter " spread

Here are the illustrations for the spread I did that was published in the November 2010 issue of CLICK Magazine.

It was a fun assignment and I liked working with the AD. As you can see, the illustrations show the same kids but in different seasons Fall and Winter. You can go through the images and note the differences in what happens in the scenes. Not a true "find the differences" but I liked this direction the AD gave better.

Thanks for taking a look and have a great weekend!!
